Our story
Risks are everywhere, but how do you make your employees your strongest defence? That’s where The Defence Works comes in.
We’ve made it our mission to eliminate fraud and cyber-risk once and for all.
And we know it starts by empowering your people — helping them fight back at work and at home.
In the beginning…
The Defence Works was founded by a former police officer and qualified solicitor — spending over a decade helping people and organisations stay safe against crime, before specialising in international fraud and corporate crime.
Throughout this career, there were three things they hated more than anything: cyber-crime, dodgy security, and awful online training! Real change was needed, and that’s where it all began.
In 2016, our founder knew large multi-nationals were already struggling to cope with the demands cyber-crime put on their systems and employees despite technical IT measures. So if they were struggling with the budgets they had, how were new, small and medium-sized businesses supposed to cope?
The Problem
Organisations desperate for help and employees left exposed to risk every day — with huge emphasis on technical IT measures that quickly become outdated and outmanoeuvred.
The Solution
Security awareness training that actually changes mind-sets — developing a positive culture where risks are recognised and understood, before giving employees the tools to prevent them altogether.
So, keeping employees at the heart of everything, The Defence Works set off to create a positive security culture across the globe. Using bite-sized, interactive training, everyday scenarios, and role play (real gamification!), we began to bring cyber-security and prevention to life like never before.
From humble beginnings, our fresh approach connected with employees, creating a world they finally wanted to engage with. No more dull must-dos and pressure from the office IT department, but a buzz that can only come from exciting insights and skills that don’t just help protect professional lives, but personal ones, too.
And the proof’s in the cyber pudding — The Defence Works now delivers award-winning security training (oh just that little thing called Technology Business of the Year) to international clients including Taylor Wimpey, Crisis, Marie Stopes, and Instor.
Their employees are now their strongest defence. How about yours?
Why we’re different…
First of all, we’ve thrown out the jargon — the complicated, techy-sounding lingo that exists to confuse and cripple your everyday employee.
The Defence Works is here to educate in a simple and interactive way. Bringing hard-hitting insights, effective practices, and everyday hacks to keep information safe, at work and at home.
Put simply, making it easier for your people to check, spot, and combat cyber-crime, for the business, and for themselves. Your very own walking, talking line of defence.
We’ve developed our team of industry experts to make our content the best our there. And we put our money where our mouth is — undertaking independent accreditation with GCHQ (yep, that’s right – the Government’s Communications Headquarters).
Any good? Yep, you’re right again. So good it forms part of the UK’s National Cyber Security Programme.
But we recognised that knowledge wasn’t enough — it’s how you share it.
That’s why our training is developed in-house, here in Manchester, UK, using the combination of Ofsted Outstanding-rated education professionals and university lecturers to deliver an unrivalled learning experience.
The cherry on the top…
Your employees are at the heart of everything we do. And we’ve said that already.
Why?
Because they matter the most. Focusing on them and their needs means we keep them learning, and wanting to learn. Benefiting them and the business.
How?
The training is fun and interactive. We’re not about tick-boxes or 726-page presentations, and instead we use our team of in-house designers and illustrators to bring content to life.
And?
Scoping out real-life scenarios that your employees can relate to keeps the insights fresh and memorable — making it possible to actually put it into practice every single day, and protect what’s important.
